We stopped along the way at the boat dock to eat our lunches.
Once at camp, the first order of the day was to gather firewood. Here are Alexis and Ruby using their heads--or their feet--to move a log along.

The wind was blowing fiercely and it took several tries to get a fire started. We used vaseline on cotton balls, as well as flint & steel to make a spark--but couldn't get it to "take" until we used matches. We made a windbreak with our bodies to try to get that spark come to life.

We had the most posh of conditions at the location of our "sweet biffy!" The pink toilet seat was a real HIT!!

Along toward evening, the breeze across the water chilled us all. Here are two adorable girls huddled together, sharing a blanket and pondering the beauty of the Mighty Mississippi.

Looks like a fun camp-over..you know I relate to all this, since I've worked in YW for so many years. Where we used to take girls, there were rattle snakes, the men had to come along with and shoot them, nice huh! The funnest thing was the night the girls hung all the leaders bra's in the trees! One year I had an ice cream truck come up to where were camped, the girls loved that~ Well have fun with them, God bless you in all your hard work :D
I have very fond memories of attending girls camp as YW president. It looks like you have a great group of girls, and you certainly were in a beautiful location. I sure miss you!
Oh this brings back memories of Youth Conference/Pioneer Hike! So much fun Gwen! I love the bucket and pink toilet lid, that's stitch-in-the-side hilarious; but oh so useful those lids!!!
Just looking at the picture of the huddling girls next to the Mississippi brings peace. Such a beautiful picture and sight!
What a great group of girls you have. How lucky you are to be Young Women's leader!
Thanks, Joanne, for loving my favorite photo--of the girls huddling together, looking out onto the River. To me it represents the essence of Girls Camp. The poignant thing is that Elle, the girl on the left, moved away to Iowa the very next day. So it is especially tender since we all miss her so much.
I love the picture of the sunset and the two girls!
